HUMAN TISSUE AUTHORITY (HTA)

BioVault has forged a close working relationship with the HTA since 2006, when it was set up to licence all establishments handling human tissue, including those storing it for human application.  Before the HTA was set up, BioVault was accredited under the preferred voluntary code audited, administered and validated by the MHRA.

More recently, in July 2009, BioVault was awarded an open dated (no expiry), unconditional HTA Licence.  In addition, this licence has been formally extended to cover every aspect of all transplantable material for human application.

This means BioVault is now essentially dual-licensed to cover the storage of human tissue for any application (pathology, public display, human research, education, performance assessment, public health monitoring and quality assurance).  No other private banks hold this degree or depth of licence from the HTA.
